In 1983, when the tracks were still in service, Indiana Transportation Museum, at Noblesville, operated trains between Carmel and the Indiana State Fair over the route that is now Indy Greenways'Monon Trail.

The weather during State Fair that year was sweltering hot, and after making the drive from Fort Wayne in my eleven-year-old, non-air-conditioned Chevy pickup, I was on the verge of heat stroke. I spent considerable time in the Farm Bureau Building's air conditioning, soaking up large quantities of iced tea, before venturing out to take in much of the fair. It was a memorable, but not enjoyable, trip. I waited for evening's cooler air to return home.
