Terre Haute: Fare increase proposed for transit system

The cost of riding the city bus could increase as early as November under a proposed fare increase for the Terre Haute Transit Utility.

"We have to increase fares because our costs have skyrocketed," Transit Director Brad Miller said Wednesday at the Vigo County Library during a public information meeting on the transit system.

"The last fare increase was more than 10 years ago. There are increases in fuel costs. We have $50,000 budgeted this year for fuel and $100,000 next year. We would have to increase fares no matter what as costs are higher and we'll have to look at these fares on a yearly basis," Miller said.
