Neighbors oppose massive development near Traders Point

A proposed new development in Pike Township is getting a lot of pushback from neighbors in the Trader Point area.

Developers are looking to rezone former farmland from residential to commercial use.

The 200 acres sit just west of Interstate 465, between 79th and 86th streets.

Indianapolis-based Cornerstone Companies, along with GCG Investments LLC, is looking to develop the land with a $500 million project.

Carmel-based developer JC Hart Co. plans to build a 313-unit apartment complex adjacent to Interstate 465 on the north side of Indianapolis, between Castleton and Keystone at the Crossing, according to plans filed with the city.

Called Allison Pointe, the project just north of 82nd Street is expected to contain studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments at 8580 Allison Pointe Blvd. on a 10.5-acre undeveloped parcel in a small commercial park west of Allisonville Road and near the interstate.

The development, a cost for which has not yet been disclosed, would consist of a single four-story building with multiple spokes—two each to the east and west and one to the north—along Allison Lake, a manmade body of water between the property and I-465.

Sen. Aaron Freeman, city reach temporary truce in 'no-turn-on-red' fight

A Republican senator from Indianapolis is backing off this year on legislation that would have repealed a city ordinance banning right turns on red at certain downtown intersections.

Sen. Aaron Freeman instead offered an amendment Thursday that would require the city to pause the installation of any more no-turn-on-red signs until July 1, 2025. The amendment was added on voice vote to Freeman's Senate Bill 52, which would put a one-year moratorium on IndyGo's usage of dedicated bus lanes for the Blue Line..

Over the next year, a state task force would assess both the impact of IndyGo's dedicated lanes and the city's  no-turn-on-red restrictions. The task force would be required to submit a report to the Legislature by Dec. 1, 2024.
