10 tours to spread holiday cheer at central Indiana concert venues
The "Creole Christmas" title of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band's holiday tour refers to the group's hometown of New Orleans, where tuba player Allan Jaffe founded the band in 1961.
Jaffe's son, bass player and tuba player Ben Jaffe, now leads the crew that's likely to share renditions of Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here," Charles Brown's "Please Come Home for Christmas" and Crescent City signature tunes such as "Tiger Rag" when headlining Carmel's Palladium on Dec. 9.
If authentic New Orleans jazz isn't on your holiday wish list, December will bring Christmas-themed shows in multiple genres to central Indiana.

Cirque du Soleil 'Ovo' show sets Indianapolis dates
A Cirque du Soleil show inspired by the lives of insects is scheduled to be the entertainment company's first production to visit Indianapolis since 2019.
Five performances of "Ovo" are planned Aug. 22-25 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, 125 S. Pennsylvania St., the arena announced Monday. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Dec. 18. For more information, visit ticketmaster.com.

Janelle Monáe, Gary Clark Jr. announced for new Black music festival in Indy
Janelle Monáe, an album of the year nominee at the upcoming Grammy Awards, will headline the first I Made Rock 'n' Roll festival in May in downtown Indianapolis.
The single-day Black music festival is intended to honor rock 'n' roll originators such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Fats Domino and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. I Made Rock 'n' Roll will celebrate the ongoing legacy of Black performers and promote equity in the genre, organizers said.
Indianapolis-based cultural promotions firm GangGang and concert company Forty5 unveiled on Wednesday a six-act lineup topped by Monáe and four-time Grammy winner Gary Clark Jr. I Made Rock 'n' Roll is scheduled May 18 at downtown's American Legion Mall.
